Your previous questions regarding this product
Can this meter be powered by the same supply as the one being monitored? If it is so powered can current be measured on either the +ve and the -ve side? If powered from a psu or battery pack can the meter measure a seperate voltage or just display the supply voltage. Can it measure bidirectional currents? I want to build a battery discharge monitor for fault finding in vehicle. The idea being that as many vehicles do not put all ECUs to sleep for a considerable period this could be left monitoring and after a substantial period could be display instantaneous discharge and the total power drawn over the period.

Hi Seamus,

>>Can this meter be powered by the same supply as the one being monitored?

Yes. Just connect both red wires to the same positive.

>>If it is so powered can current be measured on either the +ve and the -ve side?

>>Can it measure bidirectional currents?

This module shares ground on both power supply and measuring circuits and does not provide with negative readings. In case of reverse current it shows zero.

>>If powered from a psu or battery pack can the meter measure a seperate voltage or just display the supply voltage.

Yes, it can. This is why the meter has a separate connector for its power supply circuit. Moreover, its power supply voltage range ends on 30V while the measured voltage can be up to 100V. Similarly, if the power supply voltage drops below 4.5V, the meter will shut down so in case you want to measure lower voltages, it has to be powered from an independent source.

>>I want to build ...

We like the idea! Although this meter does have pads to solder connection for reading outputs, it does not have any memory or built-in logic. We think that you would need to connect the meter to an MCU to save readings in memory for time needed and then push to a computer for display and analysis. We may be of help to design and build such device.
