Acetone is a commonly used organic solvent with high polarity. Dissolves most soft plastics, varnishes, fats, oils (even engine carbon deposits). Acetylene dissolves well in it, so it is used in gas cylinders in order to avoid too high pressure, at which acetylene is unstable. It is used in the production of drugs, dyes, paints, varnishes and cleaning agents. It is often used as an ingredient in nail polish remover.
